Drag Race Supremacy: Aventador S Roadster and 911 GT3 RS

Italian grunt vs German precision.

This drag racing video is simple, despite being complex. Lovecars’ newest video features a quarter mile race between the Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster (RS) and Porsche 911 GT3 RS (RS). Let’s not start a huge war in the comments.

You might have expected to hear about the 0-60 figure. However, Tiff Needell, a former British racing driver and Top Gear presenter, explains in the video that automakers often measure these times in ideal conditions with an experienced racing driver. Other factors such as tire compound, weather conditions and surface grip can also affect the results. Let’s now talk about the numbers.

The Porsche has a huge power deficit compared to the Lamborghini, a difference of more than 200 horsepower (149 kilowatts). This may be obvious to keen readers. We can’t forget to mention the fact that the German competitor is designed to produce lap times. It weighs in at 3,153 lbs (1.430 kg), while the supercar from Italy measures in at over 3,400 pounds (1.542 kg).

It’s obvious that 740 horsepower (551 kW), and all-wheel drive can do no better than the Lamborghini. The line was drawn neck-and-neck between the competitors, but the Lamborghini’s V12 power quickly propels it to victory. The GT3 RS finished the quarter-mile in 3.78 seconds, 121.8 mph. However, it couldn’t match Aventador’s 3.33 second, 126.9 mph run.

You could argue that the video only shows the performance figures. But in today’s age of instant gratification, it remains to the point. While we aren’t sure that a Porsche Porsche GT2 RS would be a better competitor, drag racing videos can’t be beat.
