Three cars, four race.
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo is a symbol of a time when Japanese automakers dominated the performance car market. The manufacturer has zero plans to revive the model in the near future. What can we do? There is nothing we can do except to continue enjoying the ten generations of this sporty sedan in all its beauty.
The Officially Gazeted channel on Youtube had probably the same idea when they organized the drag racing that you are about learn for. The team decided to pay tribute to the iconic sports car by gathering three generations of Lancer Evos. The drag race is even more thrilling because all three cars have been modified and produce similar output numbers.
This 18-minute video shows four races between the three competitors. The first is an acceleration test that measures 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) and shows how similar these cars are in terms of performance. The race is won by the newest model of the trio.
Next is the quarter-mile test. However, this is not a drag race in which all three cars start together. Again, the results are very similar. The direct drag race, where all three Evos line up simultaneously, is undoubtedly the most thrilling. The Evo 10 is the most powerful, but it’s compensated for by its lighter weight and dual-clutch transmission.
This is where power really matters. There are many other factors that can influence the final result such as traction, weight and reaction times. The Evo 10 is still the last in this category but there is a second race that offers it another chance. What’s the outcome? The result was the same as in the previous race, despite better reactions for Evo 7 or 10. The final round is a rolling race at 50 mph (80 km/h). Although traction is not important, gear changes and reaction time are still very important.
