The battle of the behemoths.
Hennessey may be the fastest Dodge Demon in, but those without the 1,035 horsepower upgrade will have to do with 840 horsepower. It’s so sad! One Demon owner fails to overcome a new challenger, a 2019 Chevy corvette ZR1.
Although the Demon boasts 840 horsepower, it’s only running on race gas. The Demon crate also includes a performance powertrain controller module with high-octane engines calibration and performance air filter as well as front-runner drag wheels. Unmodified Demon still produces 808 horsepower and 717 pound-feet.
From its supercharged, 6.2-liter V8 it produces 755 horsepower and 715 Lb-ft torque. This is not nearly 808 horsepower. There is a noticeable weight difference between ZR1 and Demon, with the Chevy having at least 720 more pounds. Drag radial tires are the only modification to the Corvette.
A user of CorvetteForum.com claimed to have lost the race and that the Demon doesn’t seem to have all the Demon Crate upgrades. The Corvette beat the Demon by over a second. The ZR1 ran a quarter mile in 10.2 seconds at 137.24 mph, while the Dodge ran a quarter mile at 134.17 at 11.59 seconds.
Dodge enthusiasts may be disappointed with the result. Corvette enthusiasts should not be surprised if a ZR1 is up against a Demon with 840-hp, which can cover the quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds and travel 140 miles per hour. These types of races also require the driver to be skilled. You don’t have to be a skilled driver just because your car is more powerful. The Demon appears to have been at an advantage before the race began.
We would love to see a rematch.
