This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The Ferrari 250 GTO car was designed to be homologated so that Ferrari could take part in Group 3 Grand Touring Car Racing. The Ferrari 250 GTO was built on the 250 GT Berlinetta SWB chassis and the race-proven 3.0-liter V12 engine of the 250 Testa Rossa Le Man winner. The powerful engine produced 300 horsepower (221 Kilowatts), and 217 lb-ft (294 Newton meters) of torque. The engine was powered by a 5-speed manual transmission using Synchromesh technology to make faster shifts. It eventually reached the rear wheels.
Ferrari used a hand-welded oval tube chassis frame as the backbone for the 250 GTO. It was complemented by hand-formed aluminum bodywork. Ferrari’s engineering team spent much time perfecting aerodynamics for the 250 GTO’s bodywork. To perfect the iconic shape of the 250 GTO, engineers tested the vehicle in the University of Pisa’s wind-tunnel.
The 250 GTO was the first to race at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Current Formula One Champion Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien finished second behind the Ferrari Testa Rossa proto car. It was an amazing finish, as the 250 GTO beat every GT car and cemented its place in motorsports history. Ferrari 250 GTOs today are worth over $70 million, so it’s a good idea to start saving money if you plan on buying one.
