Ex-Stig Ben Collins Scares Passenger Driving Chiron Super Sport

He also looks nervous behind the wheel.

Ben Collins enjoyed the best of both worlds for many years. Ben Collins enjoyed both the automotive highlife as the Stig of Top Gear but also the anonymity of being behind the wheel of a race car. He’s still deeply embedded in the automotive world, even though Bugatti won’t give the keys to a 1,600-horsepower and 273-mph, $3.5 million Chiron Super Sport to anyone.

DriveTribe’s Collins joins us for the ride. This is not the first time that we have seen the Bugatti in action. However, Collins, a veteran racing driver, gives us a new perspective on how fast and demanding the car can be when driven on public roads. We aren’t sure, however, if the truth is out there. Chiron Collins was pushed so hard. Collins certainly takes the Bugatti around corners. However, he also makes a few comments about being careful with the throttle lest the rear end should move out. He admits that he didn’t fully press the accelerator during the mountain drive. When he does, an expletive is released and he seems a little nervous. What is the Stig? Nervous? This is the power of the Chiron Super Sport.

It’s still better than having him as a passenger. Collins was accompanied by Andy Wallace, Bugatti’s legendary test driver and racing legend. Although this man drove the Super Sport to speeds of over 300 mph, the view from the passenger seat is quite different. This is especially true when the Stig drives the Super Sport. Wallace “thanks” Collins for scaring him. Although it could have been fun conversation for the camera, Wallace’s grip on his seatbelt later in the clip suggests there is some concern. However, if we were to be in the passenger seat a 1,600-hp car driving up a mountain road with the Stig behind it, we would also be concerned.
