Modern technology meets tradition
The successor to the legendary Land Rover Defender has almost arrived. It won’t arrive until at least the end of this year, so we have an exclusive rendering of the offroader. Our artists were asked to create a two-door Defender 90. The result was this brave, high-riding warrior.
Officially Revealed
The new Defender will be a completely new product. And the British marque has already acknowledged that it will attempt to attract more customers. This means that the new Defender design will not be as rugged as the original Defender. Future styling cues will come from the other Land Rover models.
As you can see from the renderings, the vehicle is still identifiable as Defender but has a front fascia inspired by the Range Rover or Discovery. The more expensive trims will have LED headlights. Regular variants will, however, be equipped with standard halogen lamps.
The 2020 Defender’s two-door version can be seen here. It should be the most capable on the road out of all the models in the lineup. The combination of the low overhangs and raised suspension will allow it to handle steep hills, snow, and mud.
The 2.0-liter turbodiesel will power the off-roader at launch. Later in the SUV‘s lifespan, a hybrid powertrain will join the mix. It will be fascinating to see the powertrain that will power the vehicle in America, where it will arrive by 2020.
A two-door Defender will be launched alongside a longer five door model, which will offer significantly more space in the cabin. A pickup body style may also be in development, although nothing has been confirmed.
