The facelift is accompanied by a plug-in hybrid engine that makes even more changes under the skin. The PHEV Megane, which bears the “E-Tech” suffix, is the same as the electrified Clio or Captur. It has a four-cylinder 1.6 liter gasoline engine, two motors, an automated transmission, and a 9.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The Megane E-Tech runs on electric for up to 30 miles (50 km) at speeds up to 85 mph (135km/h) using the WLTP mixed cycle. It can also travel as far as 40 miles (65km) within the city.

The 1.3 TCe gasoline engine is the standard power source for conventionally-powered models. It can be tuned in three different states: 115, 140 and 160 horsepower. A new range includes a 100-hp engine that is eco-friendly and can be hooked up to a six speed manual gearbox. This is similar to the 115-hp model. You can upgrade to the 140-hp engine to receive an optional seven speed dual-clutch automated transmission. This is the only gearbox that’s available for the 160-hp unit.
