A squared-off front end gives the refreshed midsize pickup a bolder look.

The Honda Ridgeline was introduced in 2017 with a soft, crossover-like front that put off potential truck buyers. Despite its spacious interior and clever features such as an in-bed trunk, and torque-vectoring all wheel drive, the Ridgeline received a second generation in 2017. The 2021 Honda Ridgeline will be less talked about by critics, thanks to an update mid-cycle that includes a square-jawed front.

The Ridgeline receives a complete facelift that is unusual for a vehicle. The pickup’s low front end is gone. A set of more rugged-looking fenders has been installed and the hood has been raised to raise the front fascia. The new Ridgeline looks more trucklike with a prominent power bulge and a tall front grille. The front bumper cover was reshaped by designers to have more defined corners. To help the truck cheat the air, air curtains were added to the front fascia.

The side profile is almost identical to the 2021 Ridgeline, except for the higher front end. The 2021 Ridgeline looks almost identical from the back. However, the bumper is lowered and there are twin exhausts. Honda’s market research indicates that truck owners prefer exposed tailpipes so the hidden down exit exhaust is gone. The latest Honda infotainment system brings back the physical volume knob. Interior changes are also subtle. All trims now feature contrast-colored stitching.

A new Honda Performance Development styling package is included in the 2021 Ridgeline. It is one of four options that Honda offers for post-production. The HPD kit includes a new front grille featuring a wide-V texture and a unique set decals and badges, as well as gorgeous Sonoran Bronze wheels. The HPD kit also features chunky wheel arch extensions that have beveled edges. This makes round wheel openings appear more trucky and angular. All four packages are available on Ridgeline trims and will be called Utility Function, Function, or Function+.

The Ridgeline’s predecessor’s in-bed trunk and rear seat folds up to accommodate different cargo shapes, class-leading passenger space and large interior storage cubbies are still present. We can expect the Ridgeline to continue its on-road comfort and offroad ability, especially with the optional all-wheel-drive.

The pricing has not yet been revealed. The 2021 Honda Ridgeline will likely be available on the market in the first half of next year.
