In a drag racing, a Jeep Trackhawk defeated a Chevrolet Corvette C8. This caused quite a stir in May. The match was unfair, as the Corvette C8 was still in its stock form (it was Chevrolet Dude), and the Trackhawk had been upgraded to 900 horsepower. It was almost a full second faster than the mid-engine Corvette.
Let’s see if the matchup is fair. Hennessey performance pitted the stock Jeep Trackhawk against the stock Corvette C8 (it has a stainless-steel exhaust system). This puts them on the same level.
Side note: The Grand Cherokee was about to receive an HPE1000 upgrade by Hennesey. This was the last chance for it to get serious updates. Let’s first compare the numbers before you watch the video.
The Corvette C8’s naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8 produces 495 horsepower (361 Kilowatts) as well as 470 pound-feet (637 Newton meters) of torque. The C8’s secret weapon lies in its aggressive gearing and intelligent dual-clutch transmission design, which allow the mid-engine Vette reach 60 so quickly.
The stock Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, on the other hand, has a supercharged V8 with 707 horsepower (527 kW) as well as 645 lbft (875 Nm), of twists. It is certainly more powerful than the Corvette, however the Chevy is lighter than the Jeep.
These facts are now clear. Which do you think won the straight-line race? Which Vette was lighter? Or the Trackhawk that is more powerful? You can see the video embedded at the top. However, please let us know your thoughts in comments below.
