Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced that the Fiat Tipo Sedan will be exported to Mexico, where it will be sold under the Dodge Neon brand.
The Tipo was launched by Fiat in Europe in the second half last year. Now, the compact sedan is preparing for a trip to Mexico. It will be sold as a Dodge Neon from Turkey, where it is being built by Tofas (a joint venture between Fiat Holding and Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding).
The Tipo has recently produced wagon and hatchback versions. These were revealed earlier this month at Geneva Motor Show. However, it is not yet clear if these body styles will be available in Mexico.
Cengiz Eroldu, Tofas CEO, stated that the Tipo sedan will be exported to Mexico in the latter part of this year. The Tipo won’t actually be the first Tofas-built model to make it to North America. In fact, the RAM ProMaster City is a rebadged Fiat Doblo that has been on sale in the United States since 2015.
We haven’t yet released details about the engine lineup, but we remind that the Fiat Tipo/Egea sedan is available in Europe with two naturally-aspirated 1.4 and 1.6-liter gasoline motors. Fiat also offers the 1.3-liter and 1.6-liter MultiJet II turbodiesels. These engines can be fitted with either a five- or six-speed manual gearbox, as well as a six speed automatic depending on the engine choice.
