This car is the first to be built in the series.
The Alfa Romeo SZ was unveiled at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show as a prototype. It is still considered one of the most exclusive and exotic cars made by the Italian manufacturer. Although there are conflicting reports as to whether the car was built by Zagato or Alfa in-house, it is still a beautiful piece of machinery. The original example has been restored to its former glory and is now ready to delight the Alfisti from all over the globe.
FCA Heritage, Stellantis’ arm responsible for restoration projects old vehicles from Alfa Romeo Fiat, Lancia and Lancia has published photos showing the ZS fully restored in striking red. This is an ex-development car from the Balocco track, and was used in official presentation photos. The steering wheel and background color of this instrument cluster are minor differences to other models in the series.
Everything went smoothly thanks to the team who worked on this classic. The entire performance car was disassembled to its naked frame, which was then completely repainted. The original car’s specifications were followed for the interior. We don’t know anything about the engine but FCA Heritage is certain that they did everything necessary to restore it to its original condition.
The engine of the ZS is a 3.0-liter 12-valve, V6 engine that produces 207 horsepower (154 megawatts). The ZS’s engine was channeled to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox for acceleration of 0-62 miles per an hour (0-100 km/h) in seven seconds. Alfa Romeo also made an open-top SZ, the RZ, between December 1994 and 1992. It had the same hardware as the coupe, but it was slightly slower at 62 mph (100 km/h) because of its heavier weight.
Last note: The all new Alfa Romeo Tonale has an inspired front-end design based on the SZ. This is evident in the arrangement and shape of the headlights as well as the pointed hood.
