Can the Ferrari keep up with?
In a series of tests, can a go-kart with a lot of power beat a Ferrari supercar limited to production? Driven Media arranged for a drag strip so it could test a 488Pista against an Superkart. Can a pint-sized racer compete with a mid-engined 488 Pista to win? Let’s see if we can find out.
Superkarts were designed to assist racers in their transition to open-wheel racing, such as Formula 3, Formula 2, or Formula 1. These tiny racers use a 2-stroke 250cc (2.25 Liter) 2-cylinder engine that generates around 80 horsepower. This small engine is coupled to a 6-speed sequential transmission.
In perfect conditions, a typical Superkart can accelerate from 0-60 in less than 2 seconds. It even holds lap records on tighter tracks that beat our Formula 3 or GT3 race cars. Supercars are an affordable racing machine that can push drivers to the limits of what is possible on the track.
The Ferrari 488 Pista is a complex Ferrari designed to compete with superkarts’ simple formula. Ferrari’s 488 was the beginning of a new era. The turbocharged 488 GTB took over the naturally aspirated 458. The 488 Pista, a Ferrari-focused track-focused variant, was developed over many years. The 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine produces 710 horsepower (530 Kilowatts), and 568 lb/ft (770 Newton meters) of torque. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which was programmed to shift quicker than the standard 488GTB.
Which track-focused car is the best? Let’s find out by watching the drag race, rolling course, brake test and moose test to see which car wins.
