Fortunately, no one was hurt in the terrifying crash that occurred in Poland.
Another supercar appears to be down due to poor driving conditions. After colliding with a guardrail on a straight stretch highway, a limited-edition Ferrari488 Pista died in an unfortunate accident on February 11. There were no injuries reported. The Ferrari at this time is most likely a part car.
The single-car accident occurred at around 9:00 AM local time in the northwest part of Poland, near Wyrzysk. Auto Swiat reports that the weather conditions at the time were wet with rain falling and temperatures near the freezing point. The details of what actually happened are not available. However, the Wyrzysk Volunteer Fire Department posted images of the aftermath as well as a description of scene on Facebook. The driver apparently lost control of his car while driving on Wyrzyska bypass, on the S10 highway. He was later found to be fine.
Photos show severe damage to the front 488. The front clip was almost completely ripped off and shredded. It was hard enough to hit the car, and it was low enough that it was able to slide under the guardrail. However, it was not an easy fit. The windshield has been smashed and the roof collapsed. The A-pillars appear bent almost like the car was upside down. The Ferrari appears to have slid under the guardrail for a brief distance, cutting into the engine cover like an opener. It seems that there are no damaged exterior body panels.
The standard 488 Pista comes with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, summer tires. It is not known what type of tires were used on this car. Cold temperatures are generally too harsh for summer-compound high-performance tires even in dry weather. We are grateful that there were no injuries in this frightening-looking accident.
