It is similar to the coupe and uses Ferrari’s most powerful V8 motor ever produced.
Maranello’s team has removed the car’s roof after introducing the 488 Pista Coupe, and the Pista Piloti special edition reserved for Ferrari’s client-racing drivers. The Prancing Horse’s 50th droptop car model, the 488 Pista Spider, features the most powerful V8 engine in the world.
The 2018 International Engine of the Year Awards winner, a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V8 with 720 HP and 770 Newton-meters (570 pound-feet of torque) is at the heart of the 488 Spider. The Spider’s advantage over the coupe lies in the ability to remove the top and hear the V8’s symphony, which earned it the title of Best Engine for the third year consecutively.
Performance-wise, the sprint time from 0 to 60 mph (0-100 km/h) of 2.85 seconds is identical to that of the coupe. The run from standstill up to 124 mph (202 kph), takes 8 seconds, which is 0.4s less than the version without the fixed roof. It will reach 211 mph flat out (340 km/h).
Due to the roof’s complexity, the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider weighs in at around 200 pounds (91 kg) more than the coupe. However, this is the price you have to pay to get a roof that can lower to hear the V8’s music.
The optional carbon fiber wheels can be ordered as an option to reduce the weight of the convertible supercar by 20 percent compared with the standard 20-inch alloy wheels. Ferrari took out the carpets to make room for patterned aluminum foot plates. The driver’s door handle, however, is a simple strap.
The convertible version, like the coupe, has a cool body stripe that runs from front to back to imitate the airflow and make it look even prettier.
Although pricing details are not available, you can assume that the 488 Pista Spider will be more expensive than the coupe.
