Two models of these office chairs are being sold by Poltrona Frau, an Italian furniture manufacturer.
A Ferrari is expensive and can be difficult to afford. The Prancing Horse now offers the chance for people to enjoy the thrill of driving one by making the Cockpit office chair. The seat is a result of a partnership between the automaker, and the well-known Italian furniture company Poltrona Frau.
Flavio Manzoni, team leader at Ferrari Design Centre, is responsible for the styling of the Cockpit. He also designs models such as the GTC4Lusso, 812 SUPERFAST, and LaFerrari. These models would look great with this seat. There are two options for the Cockpit: the President or the Executive. The President version looks more like a racing seat. The Executive model, on the other hand, has less automotive inspiration and looks more like an elegant take on Eames’ classic molded chair.
Ferrari claims the chairs are made from the same materials used in its famous sports cars. The Cockpit’s outer shell can be ordered in carbon or alutex, an aluminum-glass fiber. This seat can be customized to any color or material buyers desire.
These seats, as you would expect with anything designed by Ferrari Design Centre are not cheap. The President is 10,000 euros (or $10,600 at current exchange rates), while the Executive costs 7,500 euros ($8,000). These are available at Poltrona Frau beginning in November or December. Jason Harris, a Ferrari spokesperson, tells that the distribution via Ferrari Store is still being discussed.
Porsche, the Prancing Horse’s long-time rival, also offers its own seat. The Office Chair is essentially a modified 911 Carrera GTS, GT3 sport seat that’s mounted on a swiveling platform. The backrest can be adjusted electrically. It costs $6,750, however. The regular version costs $5,690.
