Ferrari Reveals Limited Edition Monza SP1 and SP2 Speedsters

These cars are the first in Ferrari’s Icona Series and deliver incredible performance.

Here’s a Hello to the new Monza machines by Ferrari. Yesterday , we saw a preview for the Monza SP1 & SP2, but Maranello now has full disclosure. These are the first models in a new segment Ferrari calls Icona. They look like classic Ferrari speedsters from the 1950s. They’re far better than that.

These cars are fast. Ferrari claims they have the highest power-to-weight ratio of any barchetta. This is due to both the high levels of carbon fiber in the models and the fact that each car has the most powerful Maranello engine. The 6.5-liter V12 produces 809 horsepower (603 Kilowatts) and can propel the Monza twins to 100 km/h (62mph) in 2.9 seconds. You can accelerate a little longer and you will reach 200 km/h (124 miles) in 7.9 seconds. Ferrari compares the top speed to driving around a track on an F1 car at speeds exceeding 300 km/h (186mph). We completely agree with what we have seen.

occupant is a good way to describe Monza SP1. The Monza SP1 has a single driver seat, while the cars are built on the same front-mid-engine 812 Superfast. The single-seater design is completed by a tonneau covering that covers the area where a passenger might normally sit. A smooth rear deck completes the look. The Monza SP2 offers a second seat and a roll bar for passengers. It also has the smallest screens to deflect some elements associated with open-air driving.

The doors are small and sleek, with minimal interior amenities. Although technically one could, it’s not possible to climb into a Monza for a luxury road trip. Ferrari claims these cars are road cars, not dedicated track-day specials. However, we think hitting the apexes of a road course is the ideal environment for these prancing horses. These models are the start of a new series and we expect most will be reduced to display duty in collections.

Although the production numbers and pricing are not yet available, the modern-retro speedters are intended for collectors and dedicated clients. It is safe to assume that the price will be high with limited availability. We are counting down the days until we can actually see one in person.
