The sequel to the most iconic automotive film.
There will not be an F1 race at Monaco this weekend due to the cancellation of the 2020 Monaco Grand Prix. However, the sound of a Ferrari will still be heard on the streets of the circuit. Ferrari plans to film a sequel of “C’etait Un Rendez-Vous”, one of the greatest car films ever made. This is the first French file shoot since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Charles Leclerc, Ferrari F1 driver, will drive the new SF90 hybrid supercar around the closed F1 circuit in Monaco. Ferrari’s latest engineering feat, the SF90 hybrid supercar, is Ferrari’s first mass-produced hybridized vehicle. It will be a fascinating sight to see Leclerc at the wheel of a Monaco empty.
You should take 8 minutes to see the amazing “C’etait Un Rendez-Vous”, film. Claude Lelouch, a French filmmaker wanted to make a film about a high-speed drive through Paris that featured many famous landmarks. Claude requested that the French government close the roads to allow him to film his film. However, he was denied. Claude decided to continue his film regardless, and he began his fast run through Paris in August morning, when most Parisians were on summer vacation.
Claude didn’t have a lot of GoPros or friends with drones to create this film. Instead, he attached a 35mm camera on the front bumper of his Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9. This raw footage, which is unstabilized, captures a moment in Paris during an illegal drive through the city. Only two people, his girlfriend and his first assist, knew about Claude’s planned run. Calude called his girlfriend right before he left and said that he would be back at Sacre-Coeur within 10 minutes.
What does Ferrari have to do with all this? To add drama to the film, Claude dubbed the audio with sounds from his Ferrari 275GTB to enhance the drama. It’s hard to see the subject so it’s easy for us to believe it was a Ferrari speeding through Paris on a cool August morning 1976.
We are excited to see the new film. We hope the rawness of the original will still shine through even with modern cameras. It’s difficult to make a mistake when a Ferrari is driving through Monaco.
