The so-called Versione Speciale might not be available until the latter part of next year.
The Ferrari SF90 is an amazing supercar. But, a new set of spy photos gives us another glimpse at a more powerful version codenamed F173VS. Although the VS stands to represent Versione Speciale, it is an internal Ferrari designation so it is unlikely that this name will be used in production. It does indicate that this is not an ordinary SF90.
We have seen a few VS prototypes before. Each one tries to conceal aero-focused changes in the front. Based on what we know so far, the S-Duct hood which is inspired by the 488 Pista will be the main focal point of the upgraded SF90. Its purpose is to direct air from the lower fascia upward and out of the vehicle, using inlets and wings to do some aerodynamic witchcraft. This results in increased downforce. A hypercar with 986 horsepower (735 Kilowatts) is a good thing.
This particular set of images is where the fun begins. We’ve previously only seen the camouflage on one side, with a standard-issue SF90 rear view. The entire car is camo wrapped and has a rear wing made from the Assetto Fiorano Track Package. If we look closely, yellow paint can be seen through the gaps in the camouflage. At the front it is red. We can also see the red mirrors. Jumping back to the rear, we can actually see the mulo word on the wing. It can be translated as mule but it is certainly one of our favorite test mules.
At this time, it is unknown if the SF90 VS will receive an aero update and a power boost. According to spy sources, a tuning of the hybrid all-wheel drive powertrain is underway. This will allow for tighter cornering and more yaw control to be applied to the electrically-driven front tires. It is possible to have a more aggressive rear wing.
We could be in for a long wait on the massaged SF90. According to current rumors, Ferrari will not debut the car until 2023.
