Ferrari will only be able to get its rear diffuser running at the next grand prix.
According to some reports, the Red Bull-style low exhaust layout was first used by the Italian team at Valencia.
However, Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport reveals the European GP was just one phase of a multi-step development process for the F10 car.
Felipe Massa was the only one to debut the new gearbox. Fernando Alonso was halfway through the mandatory four-race period for his current transmission.
The Spaniard will receive the new Silverstone gearbox and a new rear suspension layout.
However, the real benefits of the new gearbox/suspension layout are yet to be realized.
The new layout will allow for a steeper diffuser shape, but it is only when exhaust fumes are directed through this diffuser that the downforce advantage will be realized.
Ferrari is currently working to ensure that the sporadic airflow does not compromise grip.
The entire concept will only be available at a later time.
The F10 will debut the new gearbox and suspension housing at Silverstone. Ferrari will introduce the update in stages so that the final concept can be presented before Massa and Alonso finish their four-race gearbox phases.
Alonso confirmed that “in Valencia, we introduced significant updates to the F10” and that there would be more in Silverstone afterward.
