This engine produces just 148 horsepower.
Although vans may not look like the highway haulers you imagine cruising along the German Autobahn’s roads, they are very comfortable. These large, powerful beasts can fly past slower traffic by sitting in the right-hand lanes, even though a van like the Fiat Ducato 150 Multijet is limited to a partial 148 horsepower (110 Kilowatts).
This is how much the 2013 Fiat delivers with its 2.3-liter engine. Although it’s not much, it is enough to allow the large cargo van break triple-digit speeds. Fiat’s odometer reads 180 km/h (111 miles/h), which is a sign of its poor performance.
The Fiat can bury the needle far beyond that marker, but it is impossible to know the speed at which it hit. Physics is still a problem for something as large as the Ducato.
The Ducato’s 2.3-liter four cylinder turbocharged engine produces 148 horsepower and 258 pound-feet (350 Nm) of torque. Fiat’s speed doesn’t seem to cause too much trouble, as it can easily pass other cars, vans, and lorries at high speeds.
Although Fiat’s US lineup has been shrinking since 2013, the optimistic days of 2013, Fiat has a strong presence abroad. Stellantis, the combination of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles & PSA Group, now has it. It is one of the more than dozen brands in the conglomerate and has a strong lineup of vans, including electrified options. We don’t have the opportunity to see them in the USA or on the Autobahn.
Although the Autobahn is an unusual road, it’s one that supercars can travel at insane speeds while mainstream workers can enjoy a stretch of their legs. You will often see cars like the BMW 3 Series and Honda Civic Type R speeding up to 300 kph (180 MPH) on the Autobahn. Any vehicle with enough space on the road can be impressive, even vehicles like the low powered Fiat van.
