Fiat’s 2019 500X Ad Feat is a Return To The Future Doc Brown

A movie is a great way to showcase new technology features.

The 500X covers are now off, but Fiat hasn’t stopped highlighting the tiny crossover. The 2019 500X TV Commercial highlights its safety features via time travel. And, of course, which movie best portrays time travel and cars? It’s not Bruce Willis’ looper. We’re talking Back To the Future and the company could not be more proud of it.

The TV commercial featured a couple in their 1960s Fiat 500 that was then struck by lightning. The new 500X is their car.

The crossover’s many high-tech features left the couple in awe. The couple was astonished by features like TomTom 3D Navigation and Uconnect infotainment system (7-inch), lane keep assist traffic sign recognition, emergency brake, blind spot alert, and lane keep assist. These features aren’t common in their time, so it’s understandable. These two were just too cute to not imagine them inside a Tesla. But I digress.

The exterior of the crossover received upgrades similar to those on the Fiat 500X. The Xenon headlights have been replaced by LEDs. To complete the modern look, the tail also gets LED lighting.

The performance figures have been improved with Euro-spec models. They range from a three-cylinder, 1.0-liter gasoline engine producing 120 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque via a 6-speed manual to a 2.0L Diesel that produces 150 horsepower through a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

Fiat has already announced the European-spec model. This could be anytime soon. In the meantime, can you spot Doc Brown’s cool cameo in the TV commercial?
