If it’s not a test mule, that’s very costly training.
Our brave firefighters can do many things, including vehicle extrication. We’ve seen too many accidents to know that vehicle extrication is possible in an emergency .
Firefighters need to practice to be able to respond to these situations. Dearborn Fire Department may have the most expensive vehicle to practice vehicle extrication training: a 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
A Rapid Red Shelby GT500 was taken by firefighters during training and posted to the fire department’s Facebook Page. This is a test mule and the six-digit cost of a Mustang Shelby GT500 fully loaded doesn’t apply. We can’t help but notice the Carbon Fiber Track Pack, which is a $18,500 option that can be purchased at the showroom.
To avoid injury during rescue operations, vehicle extrication is the process of removing a vehicle from its occupant. It’s not as simple as it seems. Having a vehicle to practice on would be a great help for firefighters learning the ropes of this difficult task.
Ford Motor Company donated the test mules for this purpose. These pre-production vehicles are not legal to use, so they often end up in unceremonial places. This Shelby GT500 is for a very good cause.
