The brand’s 1959 victory at 24 Hours of Le Mans is celebrated with the “DBS 59”.
Aston Martin began producing 24 special edition DBSSuperleggeras to commemorate its motorsport heritage.
Aston Martin Cambridge commissioned the “DBS 59” to celebrate Aston Martin’s two-place finish in the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans. Each of the 24 cars represents an hour of the race.
Aston Martin’s Q by Aston Martin division meticulously studied the DBR1 of the famous race to imitate the car’s Aston Martin Racing Green paint. Modern touches such as gloss finish carbon fiber roof panels and strakes add a striking contrast.
Other visual touches include bronze details such as the “Superleggera”, badge on the hood, custom front grille, brake discs, and 21-inch forged, satin-duotone Y-spoke wheels. These are a nod to bronze switches and dials that were used on the Le Mans winner. A roundel with a unique number is painted on each fender. There is also a custom tire wall arrow decal and foil inlay on the Aeroblade that outline the original shape, chassis number, and engine number for the DBR1 that won Le Mans 1959.
The interior features the same weave as the DBR1’s seat seats, with additional bronze details such as unique bronze shift paddles, and a bespoke logo “59 Edition” embossed on the seatback. The interior of the stunning coupe has been finished in Obsidian Black leather and Chestnut Tan. The race date is embossed on the sunvisor. It also celebrates the 323 laps completed in 24 hours.
Simon Lane, Aston Martin’s director Q and VIP Sales, said that the ‘DBS 59’ strikes a delicate balance between a timeless design which respects our history as well as a modern take on our future. “The DBS Superleggera, Aston Martin’s most powerful production car, is why the ‘DBS 59” special editions were created to commemorate sixty years of our legendary 1-2 victory at Le Mans.
