It’s not one of the ten F1 GTR Longtails, it’s also the first.
Fact: The 1997-spec McLaren F1 GT Longtail was homologated from three F1 GT street models. Let’s look at the numbers to prove that claim. Only 108 McLarens were ever made, with 28 being F1 GTR race-going models. Ten of the 28 race cars were 1997-spec Longtails. One of these Longtails is available at Tom Hartley in U.K.
It’s one of the ten McLaren F1 GTR Longtails – it’s all The First of the ten chassis, #19R. The 1997-spec F1 GTR Longtail was built as a development car to replace the #10R, which has been sold. Only two examples were made, one of which was owned by Nick Mason, a renowned collector. This #19R F1 GTR Longtail, however, was converted to road-legal specifications by Lanzante and Gordon Murray Design.
Even better, if the road-legal spec is not what you are looking for, the original parts can be purchased as a set, which includes a Gordon Murray Design book that details the history of the rare car and its conversion to road-spec. Of course, this F1 GTR Longtail still carries its 6.0L BMW V12 engine that produces an air restrictor-controlled 600 horsepower (441 kilowatts). It is an XTrac 6-speed sequential transmission. Yes, this Longtail sample has heavy bodywork to increase downforce and weight reduction to 2,006 lb (910 kg), although we believe that it has been slightly increased by the road-spec conversion.
