Honda joined forces with the website Take a Trailer to present its first U.S.-spec Civic Type R. It’s a handsome, blue hatch with red accents and black wheels. After eight days worth of intense bidding, the virtual givel was dropped.
It’s the most expensive Honda Civic ever to be sold at auction, with a starting price of $200,000 The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation was Honda’s supporter since 1991. All proceeds went to charity.
Jeff Conrad, Senior Vice President of American Honda Motor Co., stated that “we thought it would be fun for one lucky customer to have a shot at the first-ever American Honda Motor Company product while also benefiting the leading nonprofit exclusively dedicated to finding a cure to childhood brain tumors, The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.”
The Type R was the very first vehicle to be sold on the site and the first Type R sold in America. You don’t need to spend $200,000. The asking price for the Civic, when it arrives at dealerships in a few weeks, will be $33,900. This does not include $875 for destination or handling.
This Type Rs is powered exclusively by a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that produces 306 horsepower (220kW) and paired to a manual six-speed transmission. It is the fastest front wheel-drive car on Nurburgring and a decent road car, as our review reveals.
Honda’s Swindon plant will produce the new Civic Type R, while the turbocharged engine at the Anna, Ohio engine plant will be made here in the U.S.
