This is something you won’t see every single day.
We have been eagerly awaiting the MC20, Maserati’s ” brilliant inhouse effort”, a model that we are very happy with. It’s finally a two-seater mid-engine sports car from Italy with a powerful V6 engine, spacious cabin and striking design. It will be Maserati’s flagship model for at most several years, regardless of whether you like it or not.
Although the brand hasn’t yet started delivering samples to early reservations, there are rumors that the first MC20s may be available in September. Production is already underway or will start very soon. Word is that Maserati plans to build approximately 450 cars this fiscal year. A new spy video suggests that final tweaking may still be taking place.
This clip, which is about 1:30 minutes long, comes from the Varryx channel YouTube. It shows five Maserati MC20 prototypes cruising outside Ferrari’s Maranello factory. This is a strange sight considering that the mid-engined sports car has no input from Prancing Horse. The video shows three MC20s in blue, one in black and one in white.
Maserati doesn’t appear to have any camouflage on the test cars. This could indicate that they aren’t trying anything new. We can’t deny or confirm that there are subtle tweaks to the skin, but it is possible that they might be.
The MC20 is available with a new 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 621 horsepower (463 kilowatts), and 538 pound feet (729 newton meters) of torque. The car’s power is channeled through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. It can accelerate from a standstill up to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.9 seconds. It can also reach a top speed exceeding 201 mph (323 km/h).
