The plot thickens. It is.
It seems that the Autocar report on the Focus-based, Mustang inspired electric SUV by Ford may be a bit inaccurate. Jalopnik has been informed by “a source with information on the subject” that the report is incorrect. This brings back the entire speculation regarding the construction of the upcoming SUV.
Autocar reported Tuesday that Ford’s performance-electric SUV was coded CX430 by the company. It will be built on the same platform as the new Focus. According to Autocar, the Mach 1 will be a hatchback-like vehicle with a higher riding position.
Jalopnik’s source however refuted Autocar’s report that the CX430 codename wasn’t connected with Mach 1. It might be an entirely different vehicle, but it will not be the electric SUV. A Ford representative also responded to the issue, saying that there was “some confusion” with the Autocar report.
It’s not clear where the Ford Mach 1 electric SUV performance will be built, but it is pretty certain that it will retain styling cues from Mustang. This was after Jim Farley, Ford Global Markets President, had a conversation and wished to create a four-door ‘Stang SUV. He also said that it would be an electric vehicle.
Things could change, however, before Ford Mach 1’s 2020 target unveiling. There are many decisions that can be made. We don’t know if someone will decide to cancel the project. The renderings were not accurate so the final product might be changed. Although a raised coupe body design isn’t necessarily the most beautiful, it is not the most attractive.
