For EUR250k, rough it in Mercedes Unimog U 4000 camper At the 2010 Abenteuer & Allrad Off-road Show, a special Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 4000 will be made available to the public. It’s like having a luxury tent on wheels. From June 3rd, the Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 4000 will go on display at Abenteuer & Allrad 2010, Europe’s largest off-road vehicle exhibition. The U 4000 is based upon the UniversalMotorGerat or Unimog but provides off-road adventurers many additional features. A 4.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine produces 160 kW (215 BHP / 218 PS). It is powered by a 290-litre (76.6 US gallon) diesel tank. Two 20-litre (5 gallon!) reserve canisters are also included. The vehicle has excellent off-road capabilities thanks to its suspension which includes torque tube, transverse links, coil springs and portal axles. This allows for high ground clearance as well as short frame overhangs. It pulls on all four wheels, and has two differential locks for each axle. It also has a seven-tonne hydraulic front winch that can be used for pulling itself out of sticky situations. It is more likely to use the winch in order to pull another vehicle out of trouble. To travel on sandy roads, the driver can reduce tyre pressure from his/her front seat. The accommodation module rear Bocklet measures 4.35m long, 2.2m in width and stands at 1.95m. For extra strength, the walls are covered with a 2mm thick fabric-reinforced exterior layer. No matter how far away they may be from their home, travelers will not feel inconvenienced. A 110 litre compressor refrigerator, a wash basin and a shower are all included. Hot water is also available from an electric or gas 10 litre boiler. The kitchen includes a gas stove with two burners, a sink, and a drainer. The 300-litre onboard tank holds fresh water, while the 200-litre waste tank holds leftovers. Additional comforts include a TFT TV with satellite dish, a DVD player, and 220 Ah of battery power. There is also a back-up system of 260-W solar panel panels.
