Ford will repair the windshield.
Ford is recalling 63,294 vehicles of the 2022 Bronco/Ranger due to an issue that could lead to the windshield slipping out during a crash. The campaign specifically covers 39,063 Broncos as well as 24,231 Rangers.
Problem is There is insufficient urethane adhesion to the glass. This could lead to increased wind noise and water leaks. The panel may even fall out in a crash.
The build dates for the affected Broncos are from December 8, 2021 through April 12, 2022. The Rangers assembly period is from December 17, 2021 through April 12, 2022.
Ford’s defect timeline report states that the company was notified by a customer about an adhesive problem on a windshield. On April 7, 2022, the Critical Concern Review Group of Ford reviewed the situation and determined that 8 of 65 units were defectively adhered. Further research revealed 16 additional Broncos were also affected.
Ford began investigating the issue for the Ranger as well, since the two models use the same windshield installation process. Initial inspections revealed that 3 of 14 trucks inspected had poor adhesion.
Ford conducted a recall after an expanded investigation revealed that more vehicles were affected by the issue in June and May. According to the document, “The cause of this issue remains unknown at present.”
Ford is unaware of any injuries or accidents resulting from this issue.
Ford dealers will fix the problem by removing and reinstalling the windshield using a technique that improves body adhesion. On July 11, the automakers will start sending recall notices to affected owners.
Ford’s first recall was issued in October 2021 for the new Bronco after the company had to fix 553. Problem was the improper folding of the passenger side airbag, which led to it being deployed in an accident. This issue did not cause any injuries. Installing a new airbag was the solution.
