After taking the soft roof up and down “a few times”, the first person to report the problem saw the issue. The damage was discovered by the owner who realized there was lateral play in roof mechanisms that could have caused the paint to peel off.
Many people replied that they had seen similar damage to dealer demo Broncos. Several owners also provided photos of the damage.
Ford is aware of this issue. Ford is aware of the issue. On Monday, the account for the automaker posted a comment asking the original poster to send a private note with the Bronco’s VIN and other details.

Bronco 6G members are discussing temporary solutions for the problem of paint rubbing. Paint protection film, felt tape and helicopter tape could be used to treat the area. These options are not ideal long-term because hardware scraping will eventually wear them out.
The Bronco’s hard roof has also issues. Owners are starting to notice that the headliner is splitting. The roof’s edges can become brittle and may have small holes due to material loss. The panels can also warp.
