It could be used in conjunction with Ford’s other police cars.
Ford has been the preferred automaker for law enforcement vehicles over the past decades. The Blue Oval continues to patrol thousands of communities. The Explorer is the brand’s most popular vehicle for departmental use. Ford has expanded its lineup this month with the introduction of the smaller Bronco Sport. New renderings show what the Explorer would look like if Ford gave the Police Interceptor treatment.
This rendering gives the Bronco Sport its proper black-and white Ford PI livery, complete with the “To Protect and To Serve” decals. The doors are marked with the words “Police Interceptor” in large letters. An A-pillar spotlight, grille guard and black steel wheels give the SUV its proper look. Flashing red-and blue lights at the top add to the aesthetic. Red-and-blue LEDs are located in the grille and in the taillights as well as on the rear hatch.
The Bronco Sport police Interceptor seems to fit in well with other Ford-oriented police vehicles like the Fusion Hybrid and F-150. Ford takes it a step further by giving police departments a blank canvas with their law enforcement-oriented vehicles. Ford often upgrades law enforcement vehicles with other features that would benefit them, such as auxiliary power units and a more robust suspension and transmission.
If Ford ever offered one, we would expect the Bronco Sport Pi to receive similar upgrades. However, we don’t expect Ford to offer the best features for the small SUV. These would be reserved for the Explorer which has several powertrains including a hybrid. A smaller Bronco Sport Pi may be a good idea, as many departments are moving to SUVs. These are only renderings for the moment. The Bronco Sports is not yet available for purchase.
