They were found together at Ford’s Dearborn proving ground.

It’s clear that Ford has improved the Mustang ‘s performance in recent years. We wouldn’t hesitate to see a Porsche 911 GT3tailing an uncamouflaged prototype. Two interesting facts are revealed by a close inspection of the photos. The Porsche, like the Mustang covered in a cover, is also wearing a manufacturer’s plate. Both are seen turning into an area near Ford’s Dearborn proving ground, which is known for its Blue Oval performance development. This is very intriguing, and it suggests Ford is using its rear-engined GT3 to set the benchmark for its front engine Mustang.

It is safe to assume that the 2019 Shelby GT350 is the car underneath all the covers. The 2018 Mustang online configurator has the Shelby top-dog as a carryover. It makes sense that Ford would have an improved version for 2019. We are inclined to believe that this is the next GT350 according to our sources.

However, there is also the possibility that a new GT500 may be in development. The prototype that we captured back in May was a GT500. It had a larger grille and bulging hood, just like the one in our current photos. We spotted a GT500-looking car in June . Our sources confirmed that it was a GT500. Ford will make both cars. This is the third possibility. The GT500 could be a horsepower beast to compete against the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. While the GT350 could continue its role as a track machine, That would be awesome!

It doesn’t matter if this car is a new GT350 or a GT500, you can expect to see more horsepower – possibly even more than the 526 horsepower in the GT350. Ford may reveal the identity of the car at the North American International Auto Show in January, or maybe the fall.
