Ford, Chevy, Ram Heavy-Duty Diesel Trucks Battle In Quarter-Mile Race

The track is very fast.

The Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado 1500 are huge sales leaders for each brand. The three automakers also make heavy-duty pickups with powerful diesel engines that are full of torque. A new Fast Lane Truck YouTube video shows all that by pitting the three competitors against each other to determine who is fastest in the quarter mile contest.

Although all three have large diesel engines, their output and curb weights differ. The Ford F-250 has a 6.7-liter Power Stroke engine V8 that produces 475 horsepower (354 kilowatts), and a staggering 1,050 pound-feet (1.423 Newton-meters). The Ford F-250 has the most power and weighs in at approximately 8,000 pounds (3.628 kilograms).

The Chevy silverado 2500 uses a V8 to produce 455 horsepower (339 kW) a 910 pound-feet (1.233 Nm), of torque. The Chevy makes more power than the Ram at 8,200 lbs (3.719 kg). The Ram 2500 has a 6.7-liter Cummins straight-6 under its hood. It produces 370 horsepower (275) as well as 850 lbft (1.152 Nm) of torque. Although it is less powerful than the Ram 2500, it is also light at 7,700 lbs (3.492 kg).

To record their quarter-mile times, the three racers are placed in three races. The Chevy wins the first race. However, the Ford wins the second and third. This gives it the fastest time. The Super Duty finished the race in 16.06 seconds, traveling 94.1 miles an hour (151.44 km/h). Chevy finished second with 16.52 seconds at an average speed of 86.9 mph (139.85 km/h), while Ram came in third with a 17.05 second time at 87.8mph (141.3).

These trucks are not meant to be drag raced, so the quarter-mile times are pretty useless. It was fascinating to see how these three trucks disperse their power. Although the Ford started slow, it was able to turn into a powerful machine towards the end and beat its rivals just before the finish. It is no surprise that the Ford pickup has the most power. The F-Series is America’s most popular vehicle.
