This isn’t your grandma’s Crown Vic.
The Ford Crown Victoria was an American workhorse in American motoring. It patrolled the streets as police cruisers, and carried many people as taxis. Karan Adivi, designer, updates this reliable sedan for the future with this rendering of a modern Crown Vic.
Adivi designed this vehicle in 2016, as part of a college assignment. Adivi chose a four-door coupe design because Ford didn’t have an entry in this segment and this shape was still being popularized by models like the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class. Adivi has recently returned to the render to create this 3D version.
Adivi is clearly a departure from the old Crown Victoria’s three-box design. The front bumper’s lower fascia protrudes from the front bumper and creates an attractive arch around the nose. The hood’s tip is adorned with tiny bracket-shaped headlights.
The coupe-inspired design features a steeply raked roof and A-pillar. Rearward visibility would be limited by the thick rear pillar and small window at the rear. However, modern rear-facing cameras can reduce this problem.
Adivi draws inspiration from the Shelby Daytona Coupe to design his Crown Victoria’s tail. The rear is simple and has LED strips for the taillights. There’s also a prominent diffuser beneath, giving it a sporty look.
Ford is unlikely to build anything similar, unfortunately. To make a large bet on crossovers, the Blue Oval is abandoning the car market. Customers who want a Ford sedan in the future should look at Lincoln’s offerings.
