For only $999, drift like Ken Block
Ford introduced a new performance handbrake for its Focus R hot-hat. The idea was to make it easier to drift like Ken Block. Ford describes the mechanism as the “first-ever electronic handbrake”. It uses software to control the ABS and rear differential clutches. It is not comparable to traditional hydraulic handbrakes that require new brake lines and calipers.
It’s easy to install the Drift Stick. Ford created a step-by-step video tutorial to help you install the device. The clip shows that you don’t need to be a skilled mechanic to mount an electronic handbrake. Just be careful and pay attention to all the details.
The handbrake should be placed between the driver’s seat, center console and the factory parking brake lever. The handbrake must be connected to the OBD-II port of the car with cables hidden under the carpet. This connection can also be used to access additional functionality, such as a USB port that allows owners to upload diagnostic data and performance calibrations.
Be sure to navigate the menus and set your car to Drift Mode before you take it to the track. You’ll see a notification on your instrument cluster’s display that the ESC button has been turned off for five seconds.
Block’s thoughts on the Drift Stick are here if you believe it isn’t cool for whatever reason. Ford Performance offers customers a way for large-angle drifts in Focus RS. I think that’s very cool. This makes the car more enjoyable to drive.
And one more. It should not be used on public roads. Please.
