Which Ford name should be revived?
You can see that Ford is bringing back old names like Bronco and Maverick. The automaker intends to keep bringing back old monikers on future models.
Murat Gueler (Ford of Europe Design Chief), stated Autocar, “I believe we have the unique advantage of having nameplates that are from the past that can be tapped into to emotionallyize our product and tell stories no other brands can tell.” Nameplates offer a way to stand out from the rest by being refreshed and executed in the right manner.
Gueler did not name any Ford names that might be returning, unfortunately. Gueler might have implied that there was another Ford name on the way, saying that Ford had the “opportunity to differentiate itself from the flood of electrification” that’s ahead. This suggests that a future EV could be reviving a lost moniker.
Motor1.com’s podcast Rambling about Cars will let you know that we think Thunderbird is the right name to revive as a future EV. The Ford brand has used the name for many segments, including a two-seat convertible, a personal luxury coupe and a four-door sedan.
Galaxie, which is a name that evokes travel through outer space, would also be a good choice for an EV name. The Excursion name could also be a great choice for an electric crossover that is adventure-ready and long-range.
The Maverick and Puma show that Ford doesn’t care too much about keeping the names of the original models. The first was a smaller vehicle that could be used as a sedan or coupe, and not a pickup. The second was a small sports coupe that was transformed into a crossover to regain its moniker.
