Ford explains why 2021 Bronco lacks center air vents for rear passengers

This is a deal-breaker?

Everyone knows how essential air conditioner is for a pleasant driving experience and car ownership. It’s something that many car owners take for granted. Many new car buyers have made rear vents a standard feature. However, in the Ford Bronco rear passengers will notice that there are no rear vents. At least not in the traditional sense. You need not worry, your rear passengers can still get cool or warm air with the exception of some vent placements underneath the front seats.

It’s not a matter of “blink and you’ll miss” unless someone points it. Many people have complained about the absence of rear vents. Ford has an explanation. According to Eric Loeffler, Bronco Chief Engineer, this is all about the constraints in terms of package size. “Can we fit all of that in the second row? And can we do it so that we still have enough space in the front?” There are vents under the seats, but not in the center console.

The performance and placement of the rear vents is a concern. The lack of options and buttons for rear climate control means that rear passengers will have to accept whatever is offered by front passengers. We have found that this will be a matter of compromises between the passengers.

Another important point was that owners could have problems cleaning out the Bronco’s rear after off-roading. This is because water can get in the floor-mounted venting. The Bronco Sports has some rear vents that are regularly placed, but no controls for passengers. We’ll just have to see how it turns out.
