Ford Explorer ST Tuned for Brand’s Racing School

It will make its public debut this week at the Woodward Dream Cruise.

After a one year hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the Woodward Dream Cruise will be back this Saturday. This means that thousands of car enthusiasts and automakers will visit Metro Detroit. Ford and a special ExplorerST will also be present to promote its Ford Performance Racing School.

There are many upgrades to the SUV, including a fully custom-fabricated safety cage for four passengers, four Recaro seats with four point safety harnesses and racing nets around. Six-piston monobloc, aluminum front calipers from Brembo attach to 16.5-inch Mustang Shelby GT500 front rotors. Signature Wheels SV503 Track Series tires are wrapped around Michelin 315/30ZR21 Pilot Sport Cup 2. Lue Creative provided the graphics package.

The SUV’s underhood has a tune by HP Tuners. Ford doesn’t give any details on the new numbers. The Explorer ST comes with a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost engine that produces 400 horsepower (298 Kilowatts) as well as 415 proud-feet (563 Newton meters) of torque. Although the Explorer ST will see a slight increase in output, it does not require any new hardware. However, that could have significantly improved its performance credentials.

This Explorer was created to bring attention to Ford Performance’s 2006 racing school. It offers high-performance driving instruction as well as the company’s complimentary programs to new Ford Performance car buyers. The Boss Track Attack program for Mustang Boss 302 was the first of these complimentary programs. Ford also offers programs for the Focus ST and Fiesta ST.

This Saturday, August 21, the Explorer ST will be made public at the Woodward Dream Cruise. It will be displayed at Ford Performance Racing School’s set at the heart of Mustang Alley, Ferndale, Michigan. This is located along Woodward Avenue.
