Ford F-150 gets a strange makeover in an unofficial rendering

This one is not clear to the artist.

This imaginative Ford F150 experiment is silly. But sometimes, such activities can open your mind to something bigger. Sedan sales are down while pickups still dominate the roads of America. But what if sedans could be more truck-like? This has been done before with vehicles such as the Chevy El Camino or the many Utes from Australia. A better question would be, “What if trucks were more sedan-like?”

While we are not sure if this question is being asked, The Sketch Monkey has an answer. It offers a fascinating F-150 sedan. It’s obvious that the process is going to be exciting when there is no clear plan for a final design. The video above suggests that the image may not be the final design. We do have a smooshed pickup for you to look at, but keep this in mind as you absorb the abstract idea. Sometimes the best thing to do is go backwards. This will be discussed in more detail later.

According to the video the greatest challenge was to reduce the Ford’s large front clip in order to make a sedan proportional. Ironically, it’s the rear that we find most awkward. In scaled-down form the F-150’s front looks great and is very similar to the most-sold truck. With its wide sides, the back half of the F-150 doesn’t look as appealing. It looks very much like a Chrysler 300 with an added C-pillar. We share The Sketch Monkeys pain. How can you make a beautiful sedan from a basic brick when the source material is essentially a brick?
Ford F-150 gets a strange makeover in an unofficial renderingMaybe going backwards is the key. This is an insane idea to build an F-150 sedan. But such a project would be a real-life one. It would bring back the big body-on frame sedan, which was a vehicle that ruled American highways well before trucks. This bygone era was represented by the Ford Crown Victoria, which is why inspiration could be drawn from the boxy ‘Vics of the 1980s.

We hope that the original idea will be pursued. We admit that we have had a little too much caffeine.
