It’s possible to still purchase one, but it is not ideal.
It was huge news when Ford unveiled the electric version last year of its bestseller. This F-150 is the first electric F-150. It goes by Lightning, which the Blue Oval used previously, but for a completely different purpose.
Nearly 200,000 people made reservations for the F-150 Lightning. The 2022 F150 Lightning is now sold out. Ford has stopped taking orders for the new model year.
Ford’s customer-facing web (screen shot above) displays a brief text saying: “Due high demand, we are unable to offer the current model year for retail orders.” Contact your dealer for more information.” Although you can still build an electric truck online, the best options are to save your work or sign up for updates.
However, customers interested in the Lightning must wait until the next model year to get their hands on the F-150 battery-powered. CarsDirect says that some customers may be able order directly from their dealers, but only for in-stock trucks at a cost of approximately $5,000.
Ford is happy with this news, but customers who want the truck but have not had the chance to reserve a place can now choose between paying the dealer markup and waiting up to 10 more months for the next model.
Ford will begin production of the 2022 F-150 Lightning within a few days, on April 26, 2022. The Blue Oval plans to produce 150,000 units F-150 EVs in its Rouge Complex, Dearborn. The all-electric truck is the focus of a special section of the factory.
