The super truck war is now underway.
Detroit’s Big Three are at a crossroads with the Ram 1500TRX. It has smashed a Hellcat engine into its hood and challenged the Ford Raptor’s supremacy as America’s King of Trucks. Ram silently declared war (or not).
Ford would not let Ford go of the fight. According to Fast Lane Trucks Ford will launch the Raptor with two engine options (video embedded at top). One is a supercharged V8 which will be able to compete with the TRX.
This rumor is consistent with our previous Raptor report. Our sources say it will use the same 5.2-liter supercharged engine V8 as the Mustang Shelby GT500. It will produce between 725 to 750 horsepower (541 and 559 kilowatts). It will likely overtake the Ram TRX significantly if this is true.
Fast Lane Trucks stated that the supercharged V8 option would only be available in limited numbers, much like an exclusive edition with a price premium. The full-option Ram TRX will cost six figures in sticker price. You can expect the Raptor V8 special to be around those numbers.
According to Fast Lane Trucks, the Raptor will also get a supercharged V8 and a twin-turbo V6 engine with a hybrid system. According to sources, the Power Boost powertrain will be similar to the one in the Lincoln Aviator – a hybrid 368 kW/465 Nm V6 with 494 hp and 630 lb/ft.
As we say, you should take this report with a healthy dose skepticism. However, Ford is not unlikely to make these engine options a reality. If the Blue Oval continues to stick to its current schedule, we’ll find out the truth about these engine options early next year.
