The engine’s details are not known except that it will have eight cylinders and be very powerful.
The Ford F-150 truck is extremely capable with its 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. It also has 450 horsepower (336kilowatts), which it can tap in the Raptor. The loud V8 roar that delighted owners of the previous generation Baja-based pickup is what it is missing. According to Ford Authority, the automaker is testing a V8-powered Raptor right now and will eventually go into production.
The Aftermarket was First:
Report identifies anonymous sources who claim to have information on future product plans of the Blue Oval. Although it is not clear if these sources are Ford employees, they claim that a V8 Raptor has been in testing and that it isn’t just any V8 truck. Allegedly, this new V8 Raptor will notch well above the V6 version as an ultra-high-performance model, something with enough gumption to face the forthcoming Ram Rebel TRX. The truck will be powered by a Hellcat V8 engine with more than 700 horsepower (522 kW).
The Rebel is Coming:
Although anonymous sources have not provided details about the engine, Ford is likely to use the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 in the Mustang Shelby GT500. This will allow Ford to maintain its Raptor status as an off-road predator. The exact power rating of the mill has not been released, but it will produce more than 700 horsepower in the Mustang. This V8 Raptor rumor was first reported in March. There is certainly momentum behind it.
The EcoBoost Raptor is still amazing:
Another possibility is mentioned in the Ford Authority Report, which is Ford’s new HTML3_ 7.3-liter pushrod engine V8. This engine is small for its class and Ford claims it will be the most powerful gasoline-powered V8 in its category, which would in this instance be heavy-duty pickup trucks. Although power is still a mystery, it appears unlikely that the engine will be able to match the supercharged Hellcat V8. Ford may supercharge the monster 7.3-liter engine.
It’s definitely an interesting turn-of events, one that we’ll be closely watching in the coming weeks and months.
