Ford F-150 Spy shots suggest that an aluminum truck is getting magnetic paint

Aluminum panels are not suitable for magnetic signs.

What’s the deal? These are just photos of a new F150 with signs. Full-size pickups aren’t just for casual commuters. They’re also a staple work machine for many businesses. These signs can be removed with magnetic signs or were used by F-150 owners before Ford replaced steel panels with aluminum.

The basic science says that magnets don’t stick to aluminum so the clever signs you see in commercials simply don’t work on the F-150. This is a small but important issue for pickup truck owners in this market, and it’s why these spy photos are so fascinating. These spy shots clearly show a Ford F-150 2021, while the plate at the back indicates that the truck is Ford. The tailgate has a King Ranch badge, but there are no black signs for video recording. We also know that they advertise a fake business – the listed phone number is Ford Customer Service.

Magnetic paint is already available and is commonly used to decorate walls in homes. The magnetic paint is basically a mixture of iron filings and water. This allows magnets to stick to any surface painted. Faux signs are found on this F-150’s hood, sides and rear. This is exactly the place we would expect to see them for testing. Ford may be working on a special sign for its trucks, but this theory is absolutely insane. A new magnetic paint option is possible, even though aluminum, carbon fiber and plastic are becoming more common in the automotive industry.

Although we don’t know the cost of such an option, it might make the F-150 attractive to business-support buyers.  We don’t think it is too far-fetched to expect such an option in the near future.
