The production will end in the summer and the five-door team can continue to fight.
Another small hatchback with three doors is being discontinued in Europe. Ford will stop producing the Fiesta, but the five-door model will be produced. It will undergo some changes due to ongoing supply chain problems and buyers who prefer small crossovers over subcompact hatchbacks.
A spokesperson for Ford Germany, Motor1.com confirmed that the three-door was being canceled and offered some more information about the situation.
Ford has simplified and streamlined the delivery range in preparation for the model year changes. Ford is adapting the range to customer demand. The less popular body variants will therefore be removed from the program.
It is not clear what the exact nature of streamlining is. Automotive News Europe refers to the limitation of Fiesta orders due the current system order volume. Orders for certain options have been stopped by some UK dealerships, while orders for the three-door Fiesta ST have been canceled. Hot hatchback lovers, don’t worry, the ST will continue in a five-door version.
However, there could be concern for the Fiesta’s long-term outlook. Although the subcompact received a facelift in 2022 model year sales are way down for the first two months 2022. Although sales were down by a few units, they still sold 7,608 units compared to 19,844 in the same period last years. However, supply chain issues may have contributed some. Ford’s Cologne factory will continue production, although it will be sharing manufacturing space with the upcoming electric models that will use Volkswagen’s MEB platform.
The Fiesta received standard LED headlights with optional matrix LEDs on the higher trim levels. The primary visual changes to the Fiesta’s segment include slightly larger grilles and vents at the lower fascia. However, the Fiesta retains its distinctive look.
After 46 years, the three-door Fiesta will be gone in 2022. Ford is to be commended for its endurance, which was nearly equal to that of any rivals.
