The entire Focus range will have the new powertrain.
The Ford Focus mild-hybrid is making its European debut. It was first announced last March . The latest MHEV engine from the company is available on the Puma, Fiesta and Fiesta.
A 1.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged, three-cylinder engine is under the hood. It’s supported by a belt driven integrated starter-generator (BISG) which helps the mill recover energy lost during coasting and braking. Under the front passenger seat is an air-cooled 48-volt lithiumion battery pack.
The new powertrain has a peak output power of 155 horsepower (115kilowatts), more than double the power density of the 145-hp (108 kW) 2.0-liter gasoline engine that was available for Focus 10 years ago. Ford claims that the Focus MHEV will have a combined fuel consumption of 5.1 liters/100 km and CO2 emissions of 115 grams/km, as measured using Europe’s new WLTP cycle. The Focus EcoBoost Hybrid also comes in a 125-hp (93 kW) version.
The electrified Focus will come in a variety of trims depending on market conditions, including Titanium Active, Focus ST -Line, Vignale, and Focus ST-Line. EcoBoost Hybrid will be available for sedan, wagon and hatchback body styles.
A fully-digital instrument cluster is another significant improvement to Focus’ range. This display is shared with Escape/Kuga’s new duo. It measures 12.3 inches wide and provides “detailed and high-definition images and icons in full-color spectrum making them easier to read.”
Other powertrains will be available for the Focus, including turbo-diesels and turbo-turbo engines of 1.0- to 1.5-liter.
