Ford Frightening Hits the Dyno As 2JZ-Swapped F-150

It is a little different from stock.

Hoonigan’s team is creating a unique Ford F-150 that will destroy all tires. The Ford Frightening is a 2Jz Swapped 2004 Ford Lightning pickup-truck. Although the stock Ford F-150 Lightning had a supercharged V8 of 5.4-liters, it was not as powerful as a 2JZ swap. Although the Hoonigan team has their new engine installed in F-150, there is still much work to do before they can make their scheduled dyno appointment.

It is not easy to swap an engine from another vehicle. It turns out that the OEMs have hundreds of engineers, factory workers, and robots capable of building vehicles. It takes skilled builders to build a functional vehicle in a garage such as the Ford Frightening.

While the F150 Lightning may have been recalled as Ford’s new electric-powered truck in 2022, 2004 was a different story. The F-150 Lightning was a V8-powered, single-cab, short-bed burnout truck that offered Mustang-level performance and a comfortable bed. The Hoonigan team decided to revisit the formula and improve it by adding the Toyota Supra’s 2JZ engine.

Because the 2JZ has a different design from the stock V8 Lightning was built around, the entire build will require a lot custom fabrication. The 2JZ’s larger turbo, larger injectors and custom air intake make tuning a major part of the build. We are excited to see all the hard work put into the build during the tuning session.
