Although the Fusion sedan is now gone, it is likely that the name will live on as a rugged lifted wagon.
As you probably know, Ford will soon be retiring the Fiesta and Taurus in the United States. The Focus lineup will also be reduced to a more crossover-esque Active trim. According to reports, the Fusion sedan will be retired in a few years. However, the name will live on as a rugged and lifted wagon that will compete with the Subaru Outback.
With a bit of spare time and a Photoshop license, someone decided to envision how the Ford Fusion could transform from a mainstream sedan to a practical family car that combines cues of a wagon with a crossover. It may look familiar because it is heavily inspired by the 2019 Edge. However, the render has a modified roofline and pair of roof rails, just like the Outback.
The Fusion’s transformation would have to compete with other segments like the Audi A4 Allroad and Buick Regal TourX.
It’s a sad day to see Ford’s U.S. car lineup reduced to the Focus Active Mustang and the Focus Active . However, this rumor about a Fusion with more options will be true so that there’s more choice for those who love the Blue Oval and aren’t ready to move down the SUV and crossover road.
It will be interesting to see how the European Mondeo will fare with the Fusion sedan. The model will get a refresh on the continent later in the year, but its future remains uncertain.
