A final lap for Australia’s iconic Falcon at Bathurst. It’s a great one.
It’s always fun to see timed shootouts between different classes, especially when they take place at Mount Panorama in Bathurst. The Australian road course is legendary, but this video has some heart-warming moments. The Ford Falcon, a car that has been battling Holden for decades at the track, has completed its last lap.
In competition with the Mustang is the long-lived Australian brandplate. Ford matched both cars up for this fun shootout. To remind Blue Oval supporters that Ford is the top dog, a GT racing car was added. Irony is in all of this. The Falcon was once regarded as a Mustang-style four-door, at least outside of Australia. It will now be the new prize fighter against Holden, which is not an Aussie-exclusive brand.
However, that doesn’t mean Falcons and Holdens will stop tearing up Mount Panorama for many years to come. In 2007, the Touring Car Masters series was introduced. It features Australian iron from the 1960s, 1970s, and is infused with modern tech. It’s an spectacular series that you should watch. The legend will continue to live, at least in this respect.
This shootout demonstrates the future of all-new competition. The starting times of all three cars were staggered to ensure a thrilling photo finish. The Mustang was about 10 seconds ahead than the Falcon. The GT is a little behind the Falcon in the rear, but they are all neck-and-neck by the end. We won’t spoil which car wins the race as usual. But it doesn’t really matter. All of us are winners because we get to see these amazing cars on an incredible race track.
