The Ford GT set a new standing mile record.
We’re still waiting for Bugatti, Hennessey and Koenigsegg, but this 2006 Ford GT was just crowned the speed king. This weekend, the same Blue Oval supercar (which reached 293.6mph (472.5kph) in 2008 to set a new standing-mile record, was back at it again.
The Ford GT clocked 174.5 mph (280 km/h) at quarter-mile, and 240 mph (386 km/h) at half-mile. This was the final day of the Texas Mile event at Victoria Regional Airport. M2K Motorsports broke through the 300-mph barrier at the one-mile mark by reaching a staggering 300.4 mph (483.44 km/h) all within a mile (1.61km).
Speed is essential:
This is not a Ford GT stock car. According to M2K Motorsports, it is said to produce a little more than 2,000 horsepower. However, it actually produces closer to 2,500 horsepower. Because the engine’s power is not enough for the dyno, the difference in power comes down to the fact that it can’t handle all of it.
We are curious to see how fast it can go over longer distances. We would love to see the Ford GT in Germany at Ehra-Lessien, where there is an unbroken straight of 5.6 miles (9 km) that allows the speed beast to really stretch its legs. Although it is unlikely, Koenigsegg has shown that you can set a new topspeed record elsewhere, namely on Nevada’s Route 160, between Las Vegas, and Pahrump. M2K Motorsports might be inspired by this…
