We have spy photos that are exclusive to us
Ford will cease production of the GT in 2013. However, the supercar will get a proper send-off with a special edition. The report that claimed the GT would receive upgrades inspired from the GT Mk II, but it will still be road-legal was the first time we heard about these plans. We now have spy photos to hint at the changes we can expect.
Recently, a white prototype was spotted without camouflage and equipped with large roof scoops and manufacturer registration plates. This unmodified test car is likely very similar to the final production edition. We believe Ford will take the aerodynamic elements from the track-only GT Mk II roof scoop.
The images in the gallery below show that the GT Mk II’s giant spoiler, and large diffuser won’t be included in the final edition GT. Graphics from the GT Studio Collection Edition might be used to improve visuals, but this prototype does not have any such visual enhancements.
It’s not clear at this time if there will be any mechanical upgrades. The June report suggested that engine modifications could be made to increase the EcoBoost twin-turbo engine’s power. The GT Mk II had a modified version that produced 700 horsepower (522 kilowatts). This was thanks to larger air cooling and a water-spray technology for better thermal management.
We will be learning more about the GT send off edition over the coming months. Keep checking back for further details. They will be spicy.
